Wal-Mart Foot Disease

You guys...I can't even...
It's taken me until today to even be able to talk about it....
It's the wost, grossest, most disgusting thing ever...

I was loving the warm weather we had this past weekend.  Loving it so much I pulled out my flip flops to run a few errands.  Then the world laughed at me...HAHA you Dumb Idiot it's February, you can't wear flip flops!
And this happened...

In the parking lot of Wal-Mart.

Now normally I would say screw errands and go home.  But for some reason I thought I could fix my stupid flip flop.  I went all Macgyver on it.  I searched my car for anything that might fix it.  Things that I tried, but failed before landing on my final fix = tire pressure gage (did nothing), pen (nothing), mint (sort of worked but then I stepped and it broke).  Finally I thought of this...

I chewed a piece of gum and then stuck it on!  It totally worked.  Until I got just far enough away from my car.  Then it stuck to the pavement the entire flip flop fell apart and I was standing in the parking lot of Wal-Mart with one bare foot on the ground.  At that moment in time I made the quick decision to walk in to Wal-Mart one foot shoeless.  I walked straight to the shoe department and found a pair of slippers and put them on.  I figured wearing slippers in Wal-Mart was much less weird than one flip flop.  I did my shopping as quickly as possible trying not to think about how disgusting the bottom of my foot was and left.  All I could think about was getting home to soak, scrub, and wash my feet.  Then I got home and realized I still had the slippers on and had not paid for them!

I threw the stupid slippers away knowing I would never put my foot inside one again and said screw it.
I soaked my feet and scrubbed the one until it was raw.  I'm still concerned it may have some weird disease living beneath my skin.  Just thinking about it gives me shivers.

Seriously I will never wear flip flops to Wal-Mart again...just in case.

Pop Pop Poppity Popcorn

I've been craving popcorn lately.  Like to the point that Tom made some soup the other night and I thought it smelled like popcorn and I kept asking him if he actually made popcorn not soup and was just hiding the popcorn from me.
I understand that I could actually just throw a bag of popcorn in the microwave to cure this craving, however I would eat the entire bag and then feel awful.  So I have been resisting.
That is until yesterday.  Yesterday the Polar Arctic Freeze wave hit North Carolina and it went from 60* to 9* in like an hour.  Of course this happened the day I had to take the damn dogs to the vet.  Which of course I had so carefully planned so that I could walk them to the vet so they wouldn't loose their damn minds / rip my arm off getting to ride in the car and go into a new place.  So yesterday I walked the dogs 1.5 miles to the vet and 1.5 miles back home in 9* weather, which I believed allowed me to succumb to my recent craving of popcorn.
Now again, you would think I could just throw a bag in the microwave and be done with it.  BUT the problem still existed that I would eat the entire bag and feel like barfing afterwards.  Also the apartment would smell like popcorn for the next year and every time I walked in I would want more popcorn.  So what is a girl to do???
Luckily I also needed to buy a special kind of battery for our scale at home.  I knew they sold them across the street from where I work at Ace Hardware....
Ace Hardware has popcorn machines and free popcorn for customers.
I literally left work in 9* weather drove across the street to Ace Hardware picked up my battery and a key chain, paid, got my free bag of popcorn and went back to work.  Craving satisfied, didn't feel like barfing.

I am very resourceful :)

Now head on over to your local Ace Hardware to get your free popcorn and a new key chain.  I promise it's worth it!

Top 10 Kitchen Must Haves

I've been spending a lot of time in the kitchen lately, and was thinking about how my cubbards are completely full, yet I find myself using the same items everyday.  Obviously they serve their purpose and work well.  I've listed them below and where I have a link to an item I've included it, just click the name of the item and it will link you to the website.  Enjoy!

Kuhn Rikon Herb Chopper

Really I use this thing to cut everything!  Rarely herbs.  It is great for mincing garlic cloves and onions especially.  Believe me you need this!

Pyrex 2 cup Measuring Cup

Now this, I use absolutely everyday.  Whether I'm boiling water, melting butter, or making a single serving of rice krispie treats, this is my go to item.  It is great because it is glass, and 2 cups so it is decently sized...not too big, not too small.

Pyrex Portables

Now, this I don't use everyday, but when I have to go to a potluck or a function where I have to bring food I always grab this.  It's nice because I can bake directly in the container or store the food in them and then put them in the carrier with hot/cold packs to keep the food hot or cold.  It also makes it super easy to carry when your hands are full.  Again the containers are glass which I like and have lids which I super like!
Crock Pot

I try and use my crock pot at least once a week.  It is so easy to just throw everything in before work and come home to a fully cooked meal.  Plus the house smells so yummy.  I feel bad for the dogs though having to smell it all day.  But you can be sure they get treats with their dinner!
Viva Paper Towels

These are by far the best paper towels made.  They are like cloth napkins.  They soak up everything and don't fall apart if you have to scrub something.  Yes, they are a little more expensive than Bounty or the Target brand, but trust me, these are the BEST!

Dial Anti-Bacterial Hand Soap

I really like this handsoap for the kitchen.  It gets all the chicken slime off my hands and makes them actaully feel clean.

Pampered Chef pots & pans

I LOVE my Pampered Chef pots & pans.  Thanks to my Uncle Kevin (yourpamperedchef@cox.net) for giving me an entire set one year for Christmas!  I've had the same set since college and they are still in great shape.

Spatula

Now a regular old spatula may seem boring, but I'm telling you this is the greatest spatula of all time.  I seriously bought it at Kroger Grocery Store in Virginia and have been looking for another one for years.  The nice thing about it is it's a great size not too big, not too small.  But the best part is the metal handle.  It doesn't bend when you try and cut something with it while cooking.  It is super sturdy and clearly has been well loved.

Wooden Cutting Board

My cousin Annie is married to an awesome guy named Adam, who is an amazing woodworker.  His specialty is custom doors and cabnets, but he often makes things for us for gifts.  The best gift are his famous cutting boards.  Not only are they gorgeous, but they last forever.  They are super easy to clean, and can also be used as a platter.  Just recently my cousin Sarah (Annie's younger sister) got married and Adam made small cutting boards with a monogram in each one for all of the wedding guests.  Everyone was talking about how wonderfully beautiful they were.  You definately need to check out his website!

Measuring Conversion Magnets

Last but not least are my trusty Measuring Conversion Magnets.  I have one for dry goods as well.  They are super helpful (especially when you are challenged in math like I am) when your trying to cut a recipe in half or can't find your 1/3 cup and need to know how many Tablespoons it would be instead.

I Love Target so much I am just going to give them $$$

It's been rainy here...not like downpours, but constant gloomy rain.  So to cheer myself up I decided to order a super cute raincoat from Target.  I'd seen it at the store, but they didn't have my size :(  So I tried on a different one in my size to make sure it fit before I ordered it online.  I was so excited to get it (also didn't want all the rain to go away) I paid $13.49 to have it shipped quickly to me!!!!  (can you sense my excitement?)  It arrived yesterday...I hated it :(  So I went to the store to return it.  The packaging label clearly said you could return it in the store.  I went to customer service and the lady said "ok thirty whatever will go back on your card."  So I said, "well actually it should be forty something because I paid extra for shipping."
To make a loooong story short you don't get your shipping money back if you return something you ordered from Target.com.  Not even if you send it back!
So, Target, because I love you dearly I want to give you $13.49 just for being awesome!  YOU ROCK!  I can't wait to spend more money at your store!
